The Day Grace Repeats Itself
Have you ever found yourself in a familiar place and realized you aren’t the same person who stood there before?
I’ve noticed that some things come around again—not always in the same form, and not always for the reason I first assume. A familiar opportunity, a desire I thought I had put away, or a pattern that makes me stop and look closer. I’ve learned to pay attention to those moments, places, and patterns without forcing a meaning onto every one of them.
When something returns, it can feel like starting over. But familiar doesn’t always mean unchanged. We bring what we’ve learned with us: a clearer sense of what matters, more patience, and a better understanding of what we can and cannot carry.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that life has seasons. Isaiah speaks of God making a way in the wilderness, and Joel speaks of restoration after loss. Those passages came from specific circumstances; I don’t read them as a promise that every person, opportunity, or lost year will return exactly as I want. They remind me that God can bring life and direction even when the next season doesn’t look like the one I imagined.
Grace repeating itself doesn’t mean I have to repeat old choices. I can pause and ask: What have I learned? What needs my attention now? Am I responding from fear, or with the wisdom God has been growing in me?
Maybe you aren’t late. Maybe you’re just now ready to meet this moment differently.
God, help me notice what is changing in me as I move through familiar seasons. Give me discernment to respond with wisdom, and help me trust You with what comes next. Amen.
